This weekend my husband ran for the federal nomination in the riding of Fredericton for the next election. (He lost but that's another story.) Our granddaughter did her part to support his cause. The morning of the convention, she and I went to do some errands; one of them to buy socks for him to wear with his new suit.
Madie: Grammie, I think Grampy needs new underwear, too, she says as we perused the aisles.
Grammie: But Grampy has lots of underwear, Madie.
Madie: Grammie, I WANT to buy Grampy new underwear. (Since she seemed to feel deeply that he had this need, I relented.)
Grammie: Okay, Madie, you can pick out some underwear while I get the socks.
She studies the array hanging above her head and when I come back with socks in hand, she points to a bag of Stanfields.
Madie: I'd like to get him THOSE ones, please.
I get the right size (which she double checks after asking his size) and we head to the checkout. She suddenly stops and says very excitedly...
Madie: Grammie, look there is a RED pair in this bag! They are PERFECT for today!
I think SHE'S going to be the politician!
