Holiday In and Out

We wait for our summer holidays all year and even the weeks leading up to it are some of the best just because of the anticipation. I almost regret when they do come because I know how fast they'll go. And they have. Two weeks. Done. Despite the weather, it was a well-needed rest. I even read a bunch of books which I haven't done in years thanks to my new glasses. I think the old ones didn't have the progressive lenses in the right place and I found it so hard to read with them, and my eyes got tired too fast without them. I so appreciate being able to get lost in a story again.

The first week I had hoped to spend at Grand Lake with the dogs, but the weather just wasn't good enough to be cooped up with them at the cottage. Not that there isn't enough room; our family summer home is just that. But I wasn't in the mood to worry about Sadie's training there. So I got a start on cleaning out the basement instead. Haven't finished but at least it looks better.

Then the trip to PEI. Yes, I do work for Tourism NB, but our dear granddaughter wanted to expand her young horizons so her mother got a cottage for a week in Cavendish - Bosom Buddies was the name - a good Anne name of course. It was a great two-bedroom cottage done in pine - very quiet with a nice view of the ocean in the distance. The weather wasn't perfect but we got in all the sights and even the beach with a pretty sunset. Madie made friends with a little girl from Newfoundland and now has an e-mail buddy I'm sure. There was lots of hugging and promises when she left the day before we did. I have to say that I find the Island attractions so "commercial" with everything from Santa's village to Jurassic Bart's or a rip-off on Green Gables (I found only "Avonlea" was a true Anne experience as well as the musical which we saw in Charlottetown and both were well done. After while though everywhere you went the red pigtails and hat got a little old), and you feel like you're being fleeced by the prices. And those observations aren't based on my tourism bias.

Now back to work tomorrow with a slight change in jobs in the offing. I wonder what that will bring... hope springs eternal.
