The official introduction has occurred and no fur flew. I am so proud of my boy. Bailey could see Sadie through the deck door and he was very excited - whining, crying, running back and forth - but no barking. I went in to calm him down while David kept Sadie outside. I made Bailey sit and talked to him quietly and then had him lie down. I held a hand on him while David brought Sadie inside. She came over and sniffed him for a minute while he was in the subservient position. Then I let him sit up and they went nose to nose. She starts licking his face all over and he LET her! I was amazed, as this is a dog that didn't start out with any doggie aggression but learned some (that's another story) along the way. He's told her to back off a few times and is a little territorial around the bed (he's king there), but all in all a great first meeting!
She has had two pees on my hand-hooked rug and there was one poop downstairs but I can't necessarily blame her as I didn't see the culprit on that one. But since then she's gone outside so I hope she's starting to understand that her bathroom isn't the house.
I brushed her this morning (she SO needs a bath but can't have one for two weeks due to the surgery). I'm hoping that will help alleviate the doggy smells for a bit.
So our family is complete again. And Madie said it all yesterday when she was over for a visit. "Sadie, you are so precious!"
