Bailey and I made the trek to Solid Gold tonight to meet Shelley and Shylow for the showdown at the not-so OK corral. At first he didn't notice "Shy" in the room cause he was too busy smelling the doggy smells everywhere. But suddenly he realized there's another guy a few feet away and the insane barking started. Step in Solid Gold handler... pull leash, loosen leash... pull leash, loosen leash... walking Bailey back and forth trying to make him give up the ghost. He semi-tired out every now and then. Finally poor "Shy" got to leave and then we had the discussion with said handler. I must admit much of what he said was a bunch of bad metaphors I could do without, but if you took all the "verbality" out, we got a couple of good pointers.
Now there's not a big surprise that I'm letting him get away with too much leash pulling which isn't helping his agression with other canine (people he generally loves once you've finally entered the house.) Everyone in the family has a dog and I think trying to deal with all of them at the lake feels a little daunting so I think we'll just start with "Shy"... it would be nice for Shelley to be able to bring him over to our house without having to shut our mutts in the bedroom or muzzle him. One dog at a time sweet "J". Hope the neighbours have earplugs for our practise sessions in the yard!
They don't think he's really a mean, agressive dog... he just can't read doggy signals well, but Shelley and I aren't sure he wouldn't poodle-shake if the dog was small enough. That said, the verdict is that there is hope for Bailey, with a lot of work to overcome years of bad habits.

The pups - Priceless! (Especially if they get along, eh Shell?)
