It's Been One of Those Weeks

If anyone took stock of the information that passes our desks at work, they would be totally astounded. And therefore, we are open to human error. It happened this week... I've been waiting for it... usually it's the Vacation Planner that a tourism operator finds a mistake and hangs it out for the world to see. It's the negatives we get after a YEAR of hard work and seldom the positives (although some of those do come in). This year, it's the map. Three communities who invested their hard-earned tax dollars in our Hometown Program got left off what we call the "sell side" of the map (the plot side has the map, the sell side has information to sell the visitor on staying longer). It got missed by everyone including our agency. Deputy minister NOT happy I'm told and my response was, "and he thinks we ARE?" My staff and I take our work very seriously and I don't think I've been with a more dedicated, conscientious team. My friend and co-worker Penny came to our rescue and offered another opportunity she's working on to promote them. I feel sick about it... so if anyone is travelling on the Appalachian Range Route, stop in to St-Quentin, Dalhousie or Campbellton and tell them I sent you.

Then a person called to say the 1-800 number for their community was incorrect on our website (I'm responsible for that too.) I was brought the letter (didn't tell me about the phone call that preceded it) in which he had some complaints and suggestions for the site, but didn't offer a new phone number. My staff looked into his comments and provided information for a response. In the meantime, the guy writes another letter to complain that the number still hadn't been changed and WHAT was WRONG with us! I find out from another co-worker that a different person called and gave us the correct number and it is now fixed. SO, I go to the minister's office to ask his admin assistant who she gave the original information to when guy number one called the first time. She gave me the name of the staff person, who I then e-mailed (she was out of the office) to ask her who she gave the number to because we didn't get it. She calls me to say it was ME! I say, "I got the letter but this was a phone call before the letter." Apparently this guy figured someone would call him to find out the correct number (no don't give it to the admin person you were talking to in the first place). So much for communication and the time it wastes.

My rant for the end of the week... can't wait til Monday!
