The Sadie Saga

It's been over two months since we adopted Sadie from the SPCA and we've learned a lot. According to the vet, our poor girl had "every parasite known to man". Literally. With treatment she currently has one left - one that the medical community doesn't see much but it's a persistent little bugger. In fact the vet college on PEI said they have never seen that much in one animal. Can you imagine what life has been like for that young dog? I'm sure she doesn't remember ever feeling or being well. We're waiting for a second round of special meds to arrive which she will take for six months along with other supplements this summer. Our dog Bailey will have to be monitored as well. She's still peeing in the house on occasion (but I really don't expect that to improve a lot until she's well as I don't think she understands control of anything since her system is out of it).

The vet says that there is, in reality, only one place not too far from where she was originally picked up as a stray that would have that much contamination and it's unfortunately a well-publicized farm. But past is past and she's home now.

Sadie is still a work in progress on so many fronts but I love her and most days so does Bailey. ;-)
