There are stories you just have to write down and this is one of them. I should have written it down when it happened, but so far I've just repeated it orally. I retold it recently so I thought that it was time so here it is.
David and I were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary three years ago in June, so I had out our wedding photo album at the time to take another sentimental journey. Madie and I were sitting at the kitchen table and thought she would get a kick out of seeing what people she knows now looked like back then. We were looking at her great grandparents, and aunts and uncles, and Grampy Dave with long hair. We came to a shot of me at home in my wedding dress. I said, "Madie, doesn't Grammie look pretty?"
She studied the photo quietly, and then murmurred, "Pretty ugly!"
Although I wanted to LOL, I replied, "Well, it WAS the 70's!" And closed the book. Needless to say, while I have my wedding dress packed away, I'll be smart enough not to offer it to her when it comes time for her trip down the aisle! ;-)
Which reminds me of another "diss" I took from my granddaughter. Again we were sitting at the kitchen table, actually I was sitting AT the table, she was sitting cross-legged ON the table in front of me. I was hand sewing, she was playing, and we were chatting amicably. All of a sudden I saw her staring closely and intently at my mouth as I was talking. She noticed that I noticed her scrutiny, so to reassure me she says, "It's alright Grammie, I'm just looking at the fur on your face." Apparently I was in need of a lip waxing along with the Madie waxing! ;-)

WOW that's intense! What a kid! When I was a little younger than she, my grandmother took me to eat a Woolco's restaurant where I promptly asked (far too audibly)why the lady at the cash register had a mustache, to my grandmothers mortification. Naturally everyone in the restaurant heard, it never ceases to amaze me how interesting and new everything is to children!
