I told myself that one dog at a time from now on was the sane way to do things. Bailey now being over 10 deserves some time to himself. But sometimes divine intervention takes us on another path. Among my other "duties" with the Fredericton SPCA, I volunteer at the shelter every Thursday night until closing time. A couple of weeks ago, one of the staff asked me to come back with her to the kennels that house the dogs that are not yet on the floor for adoption. Animals that are brought in are kept there for a few days to see if they are claimed and if not they are health and temperment checked. She wanted me to meet two dogs that were brought in together that day.
I took a look at both sets of eyes and saw my angel Rosie in there. She was my dog of a lifetime and passed away over 10 years ago. One was female and the other was male and I couldn't stop thinking about them. I asked David if he would go visit just to have a look - no pressure - and I meant it. We went on Saturday and he liked the female because she didn't shed (big surprise there!) The male had coarser hair and it did come out a little, but we took them both on a walk. The female was a little bigger and more lively, but I knew if he agreed she was it.
Bailey and I have been lonely since Brodie passed away, I see it in his eyes and his demeanor. It has been nice for us to bond for a few months on our own, but I really think once he learns to accept her, he will love her too.
I've visited her almost every day and walked her as often as possible. She had some diarrhea last week but today is ready to be spayed. I can take her home on Thursday so have taken that day and Friday off.
I named her Sadie. It wasn't specifically in memory of my great grandmother who taught me to knit and loved my dolls as much as I did, but when I thought about a name, it just was there and was right. I think Gramma must have approved.
She is a sweetheart... thank you David for my Valentine girl.
