Martini Straight Up Shaken Not Stirred

The Morell women went to brunch at the Delta yesterday. Since Jenni moved back to Fredericton with her new husband we're all here now and it was time to get together for a little bonding. We got ourselves seated in a cosy corner of Bruno's dining room preparing for the buffet, when the waitress asked to take our drink order. Being 11 a.m. some had coffee, some milk etc., but Madie ordered her usual "water". But this is where my granddaughter got precise (sometimes her maturity surprises me but it shouldn't anymore.) In the actual voice of an adult, she says, "I'd like a glass of water please, a slice of lemon on the side, a straw and TWO ice cubes." We all chuckle behind a hand to the mouth and the waitress says, "that's very specific order, I'll have to look right after that." When she comes back she apologizes to Madie saying that the two ice cubes melted pretty quickly, to which my granddaughter responds, "Next time I'll have to ask for four."

But the highlight of the brunch was that I learned I am going to be a God-Grandmother! Actually a great aunt too, but I like the first best. You see I am one of Jenni's godmothers (the other being her mother's sister and we both profess to be the favourite, but the truth is we enjoy sharing the experience.) While I work hard at being the "coolestgrammie", I'm looking forward to being a cool god-grandmother as well. Congratulations Jenni and Chris!
