Some of you know, and some of you may not... I work for Tourism New Brunswick in marketing. Monday and Tuesday I had to travel to Grand Manan to meet with a couple of tourism operators about content on the island on our website. I haven't been to Grand Manan in 10 years and I looked forward to the visit especially since one of the people we were meeting is a whale-watching operator. He has a great sailboat and we had a good tour of the bay, seeing about eight whales - six finbacks and two minkes. My only regret is that we didn't see any Right whales which are my ultimate favourite! Mostly because there are less than 400 left in the world and also because they are the divers that like to show their tail! Well, my two colleagues saw one from the ferry on the way home (and having the luck that I do, I took that moment to go inside and get a drink.)
Grand Manan is THE place to see the whales. It's also very quaint and picturesque and an coastal adventure. If you haven't been there, even the hour-and-a-half ferry ride is cool.
Those of us who live in New Brunswick tend to take it for granted. But if you explore a little, you will find some of the most special and unique places, and especially wonderful people. We polled some very world-experienced travel writers recently, asking them about what they liked about NB and while they raved about the nature and the culture, they said we had it made in spades with.... our people! Apparently we're also unforgettable. So I challenge you to travel someplace in the province where you've never been, and then blog about it. Tell us all about your experiences... and the best NB blog may win a prize... you just never know! ;-)

Grand Manan is very quaint, my best friend lives on White Head, another island off of Grand Manan, I have some amazing pictures I took off the wharf there, for anyone who loves to take pictures, this is the place to be....they have many americans who go to Grand Manan and White Head every year.
My next NB adventure will be the Acadien Pennisula I hear its breath-taking.
Your friend wouldn't happen to be Liza MacDonald would it?
no sorry - April Frankland :o)
