What is the world coming to?

I started to call this "What is Fredericton coming to?", but then I realized that it's not just Fredericton. And I don't want to trash young people, heck I was one once... and despite what one might think... I remember it well. But the string of swarmings and other such aggression seems to be escalating... society has allowed young people to grow up thinking they are entitled and it's all about "me". I completely disagree with the Young Offenders Act, for example, as far as I'm concerned, you do the crime you pay the price and that is owning what you've done... publicly. At one time children's rights did need to be better respected but the pendulum has swung way too far the other way. Teachers can't teach because they no longer have authority in the classroom. I supply taught for a while years ago when I was growing disenchanted with my media career and I can't tell you how many times I heard kids say, "you can't do anything to me, I know my rights and my parents will sue!" And speaking of parents... so many have given up doing just that these days. I think for some reason they believe it's someone else's job... (I've had more than one teacher tell me that they've had parents say, "If you can't handle my child in the classroom, that's your problem." Hold the phone people, no it "ain't"! Society needs to step forward soon or we will have generations of people who just won't work for what they want; there's less and less loyalty in the workplace; and our streets will become even more unsafe, because people don't have respect for others or their property. I fear we're in trouble, but I am preaching to good parents out there... I've read some of your blogs so I know you understand. Keep up the good work... the world needs you!

I agree, its pretty scary. I see these parents with children my daughters age and I think "how can you let him/her speak to you that way" or "who do they think they are, they are just kids".....parents look defeated, I have a friend who bathed his step daughter and his other 2 children and the child complained to her father that he hit her in the head with the water cup, that dad called social services and he was investigated and told to leave the home. It took 5 mths to get everything straightened out. How does this make sense?
