I'm going to embark on a mission. You see years ago my daughter moved back home for a brief stint with her dog, Bailey in tow. Now when she adopted him from the SPCA when he was eight weeks old, my sister predicted that somehow he'd end up with me. I never imagined it would happen, but circumstances do change and he became 'temporary permanent' fixture. Shelley and I once had a brief discussion about who he truly belongs to, and although I'm not quite sure we came to an official conclusion... the truth is, he IS mine, and has been in address and in heart for quite some time. And we could never separate him from the "brother" I adopted before I realized Bailey was here to stay. But I do digress....
Really, this blog is about what has happened to my little fellow, who was always friendly with the other family canines at the cottage, despite barking furiously at the neighbours' dogs or anyone walking by. Until the Queen of the Lake, my sister's English Setter, Peggy, passed away, he'd tussle only with her from time to time, daring to question her authority... but everyone else with fur was okay. Well, she passed on and he took over. He is now very aggressive with the other family dogs, making damned sure they know he's KING. I'm tired of muzzling him each summer, SO... my call to Solid Gold to have him assessed for potential re-socializing. Shelley has offered up Shylow as a test case - since he will be one of those surely to be on the hit-list (and after all, Bailey was hers originally). They had a brief meeting in our yard recently - notice I said brief - because if you could describe 'doggone insane' that would have been it. Images of a relaxing day at the beach at Grand Lake quickly disintegrated. Monday, June 4th, we're off to Solid Gold... now I doubt he'll be quite so bad since he'll be thrilled with the car ride and he's not any place he considers home turf. I did warn the trainer that he might decide to make a complete liar out of me. To which she replied, well that would be a good thing... not really, cause back on HOME turf... I know the little sneak's score.
Maybe she can help (she's going to assess me too cause often owners can contribute she says)... yup, I'm really uptight and send out those signals to him! If, she figures he's hopeless at nine years of age, or if I'm hopeless at 54, or we're both hopeless... it's the muzzle for you again, BUD! You'd think he'd get the picture, but he is male after all. Mission impossible? Stay tuned...
